Phoenix Coconut Chicken is a hotpot restaurant that offers coconut as the soup base as their specialty. The client wanted to have a rural China element mixed with tropical feel from the ingredients they use. Fengshui also plays a big role on deciding material and layout of the restaurant. The client wanted to have bamboos and rattan chairs in the interior. So I decided to use the bamboo in the transition area, acting like a fence to build up the ambiance before entering the dining area, separating it from the shopping center ambience. The usage of the bamboo also get accompanied by rattan chairs and warm wood tone, all to create a more cohesive natural ambiance of rural and tropical interior. The reason warm gray was selected as the paint colour is to round up the warmness of the ambiance, also to provide the rustic feel that we usually from walls of rural houses when combined with slate-like floor tiles.
